San Francisco, here we are!

We arrived in SF after a short ride (20 km) from Pacifica. (Saturday 7th July). The coast route 1  still amazes every day in different landscapes. Excellent high waves attract dozens of wave boarders who show their tricks to us while passing by.
Despite the general warnings for strong headwinds (as we ride S- N), we had again (!) a good tailwind. Luckily we could make a reservation at a hostel in the centre of SF (Turk St./ Market St.) this morning. How is it possible in high season and the week of the 4th July...?
We booked two nights and the Hilton is around the corner. Probably the Hilton will charge for a  simple, but clean, queen size double bed a zero behind our bill ($ 55,-- /night ,which is cheap, we think, at this place).
SF is too much to be absorbed in our minds. Although Fishermans Warf is covered with tourists and funny people who earn their money in various creative ways, the rest of the city is rather quite and bike friendly. Special attention for the frequent rails of cable cars and electric busses is needed.
Again our compliments for the average US car drivers, who really give room to us and contribute to a safe feeling of travelling. (If this attitiude is generated by fear to hit us, or finds it's source in politeness, we still can't figure out. Anyhow: it's pleasant!)
Here the streets are full of drug addicts/drunkards and/or homeless people who beg with cardboard pieces for food and help. Not funny to see, but we cannot solve these problems by donating some quick dollars.
Coming in through Balboa St/Turk St, we needed all our skills and power to conquer the steep streets with our loaded bikes. Once and a while we even had to walk up and our chain reduction of 34 / 21 was not sufficient.
At pier 39 (a common harbor!) two huge sealions played their games at the wooden platforms as if they belonged to a local circus, in the meantime loud barking and keeping the tourist glued.
The Golden Gate Bridge stayed invisible for us in a thick layer of fog. Monday we will cross it to  continue the 1 north along the coast to Eureka. A visit to Sausalito, the hippy centre, will the end of our visit to SF.
This is it for now. We go for a walk to find a fish restaurant.
